Podcast #11: Colourism

The term racism is very well known in today’s society, but how often do you come across the term ‘colourism’? As light is being shone on a number of issues that communities face today, the problem of colourism is only just being highlighted, despite being around for centuries. This skin tone bias has very serious effects on communities, ranging from sparking feelings of insecurity surrounding a person’s darker skin tone to skin bleaching products becoming household necessities. In this podcast, Marvina and Pratyasha discuss what colourism is, how it came about, as well as the wider implications on people from the South Asian and black communities.
