Introducing the new MindMate Ambassador team!

by Megan – 5th Dec 2017

What’s a MindMate Ambassador?

Together we’re a team of young people who work with MindMate. Due to lived experience, we all have a passion to support and improve young people’s health and wellbeing.  We might be a small team, but we have big plans! We’re really excited to work with people and services in Leeds to promote the MindMate website, and create a positive impact for young people’s mental health in the city.

Why did I get involved?

I have struggled with mental illness for years. It was something I tackled on my own, but in my teens, I started to get help from the services… all of the services. From GP appointments to hospital stays, you name it I’ve been there and got the T-shirt. Sadly, I felt let down on too many occasions and it’s taken me a long time to get to where I am today, living stably and accessing the support I need. I care deeply about making a positive impact in the world of mental health, and I want to use my own experiences to improve the mental health services, and reduce the amount of people experiencing things the way I did.

So, what have the MindMate Ambassadors got planned?

Some of our ideas for the next few months are –

  • using social media to promote the MindMate website
  • visiting schools, getting them on board with mental health support
  • building connections with local celebs
  • improving the website and adding new pages, e.g. a page for young carers and young parents

How can YOU get involved?

If you’re under 24, you could join our monthly Future in Mind: Leeds panel and have your voice heard. Alternatively, fancy contributing to the MindMate blog? We’d love to hear from you. Get in touch by emailing mindmate@nhs.net.

And don’t forgot to follow us on social media to keep up to date.

  1. Hi,
I’ve been looking for a way to contact MindMate or MindMate ambassadors with regard to having a stall at our school health fair. We’ve put a big focus on mental health this year and it’d be great for the parents to be able to see what MindMate is and offers!

  2. Wow I go to a school and they have mind mate ambassadors to so I am going to try and land myself as being an ambassador of mind mate

  3. Hi
I am leading a staff meeting in March to launch the use of the Mindmate Lessons throughout our school. Would love a Mindmate Ambassador(s) to come and give a short talk to staff about the importance of teaching about manual health and well-being. How do I get in touch with you?

Zoetrope

Zoetrope is an emotive play by Rebecca Manley which takes us on a very gripping story of seven people within Leeds struggling with mental health and their journey with it as they begin to rely on one another. This play is excellently written and very life-like on how it shows mental health within young people. […]
